KW Urban Harvester Issues Grow-a-Row Challenge!
Together, let’s reach the 10,000 pound goal!
KITCHENER/WATERLOO, ON, June 9, 2020 – KW Urban Harvester (KWUH) is issuing this challenge to Kitchener-Waterloo: to see if together we can grow 10,000 pounds of produce so as to make fresh healthy food more available to the community this growing season!
They are issuing this challenge as part of their newly launched Grow-a-Row program which encourages people to grow food in their yards and community garden plots to give to those in need. Food can be donated either directly to those in need within the community, or through organizations such as the food bank. Those in need can also be the ones growing the food themselves!
To help these efforts along, KWUH is providing interested neighbourhood associations, community gardens and other organizations with seeds, as well as sprouts and seedlings (including squash, tomato, cucumber, zucchini, beans and pea seedlings). Soil and compost is available too for those that need it. Then, it is up to participants to start gardening! KWUH will work with participants as needed to find places to donate the produce and keep track of how much produce is grown. They also are providing tips and advice to help people along their gardening journey.
KWUH has been working to develop the program in partnership with its umbrella organization, the Laurier students’ group, LSPIRG and the Food System Round Table of Waterloo Region. To get involved, visit www.kwurbanharvester.org/grow and start to Grow-a-Row!
